Pacific Island Domestic Ship Safety (PIDSS)

The Pacific Island Domestic Ship Safety (PIDSS) Projects seeks to improve the safety of domestic shipping in the Pacific. The project aims to reduce the risk and incidence of loss of life within the domestic shipping industry. The inception of PIDSS project took place in 2010 following the two tragic accidents which happened in Kiribati and Tonga in 2009. Initially focused on Tonga and Kiribati from 2010 -2012, the project has now expanded to the greater region of the Pacific including nine other Pacific Island Countries
