This training will facilitate the development of institutional capacities and human resources in the field of casualty investigation. The primary objective is to assist persons nominated to undertake marine casualty or marine incident investigation in an understanding of the Code of the International Standards and Recommended Practices for a Safety Investigation into a Marine Casualty or Marine Incident (Casualty Investigation Code) adopted by resolution MSC.255(84), as amended by resolution MSC.390(94).
Whilst basic obligations, responsibilities and techniques of casualty and incident investigation will be focussed, provisions of the Guidelines to Assist Investigators in the Implementation of the Casualty Investigation Code (resolution A.1075(28)) and mandatory reporting requirements under SOLAS 1974 and MARPOL will also be covered during the training. The course is also designed to facilitate the exchange of information between investigators, in order to promote cooperation in the conduct of investigations at the regional level, as appropriate.
Representatives from National Maritime Authorities will be participating in this training. Countries represented are from Cook islands, Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
