Providing energy security and supporting more informed decision making on the use of the region's geophysical resources is at the core of our Georesources & Energy Programme.
Sustainable, environmentally-managed resources that ensure access to renewable energy relevant for the Pacific while driving a green economy model to support efficient and informed use of traditional energy sources is at the core of this programme.
The leading technical agency in supporting the shift towards a Green Economy, the programme is committed to reducing our carbon impact of existing energy networks whilst driving energy security for the 64% of Pacific people who do not have consistent access to energy sources.
Scientific and technical knowledge drive this work through testing of relevant renrewable energy models, go physical surveys, geo-engineering and assessments to inform relevant data for decision making. This knowledge also informs the development of sustainable energy opportunities to improve the lives and livelihoods of Pacific Communities.
Our work is underpinned by the concept of Green Economy supported by the Framework for Action on Energy Security in the Pacific (FAESP) and Framework for Resilient Development in the Pacific (FRDP).
The Georesources and Energy Programme brings together the Economic Development Division and our Georesources team. The inextricable links between understanding and use of Pacific georesources and their link to the development of sustainable energy systems ensures the programme effectively integrates along each stage of the supply chain. This model ensures increased support for our members to understanding, protect and manage these resources sustainably.
