This work is focused on ensuring navigation in our Pacific waters is safe for any person or vessel at sea. This includes protecting our environment and reducing the impact of maritime transport whilst facilitating international and domestic vessel traffic, a critical economic driver for our region.

The delivery of Safety of Navigation services in the Pacific region is essential to achieve greater efficiency and particularly contribute to energy efficient shipping and enhanced safety. This requires international technical cooperation and regional collaboration to assist Pacific Island Countries & Territories in delivering harmonised and standardised safety of navigation systems.

The Pacific Safety of Navigation project phase assists countries in building the capacity to develop and maintain AtoN in Pacific Island Countries and Territories (PICTS), conducting risk assessment as required by Regulation 13 of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS Convention), developing safety of navigation policy and legal framework, improving budgetary management and supporting regional coordination related to Safety of Navigation i in the Pacific .
